ABB to build $10m e-houses worth for Oz ammonium nitrate plant

ABB has been awarded a contract worth $10 million, by Técnicas Reunidas for the electrical balance of plant (eBoP) for a new ammonium nitrate plant in the Burrup peninsula in Australia.
The new plant, once in operation, will process up to 760 tons per day of wet ammonium nitrate, 760 tons of nitric acid and 915 tons of dry ammonium. Engineering, design and construction firm Técnicas Reunidas is the principal contractor and it has tasked ABB with building two 'e-houses', prefabricated metal buildings designed to integrate all electrical and control equipment. ABB says that, besides improving the safety and adaptability of the plant, its e-houses will also speed up the construction, since the eBoP can be developed while the plant is being erected. These e-houses will include the high voltage ac connection, air conditioning, fire detection equipment and lighting system. They will provide shelter for all plant electrical equipment, medium and low voltage switchgear, dry and oil transformers, capacitor bank, uninterrupted power supply, and the motor drives.
