British Safety Council launches IOSH working safely e-course

The British Safety Council has launched the Internet-based e-learning version of IOSH's (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) established Working Safely course.
The course, which can be accessed online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides people at any level, in any sector, with a sound grounding in the essentials of health and safety at work. It covers: personal responsibilities for working safely; identifying common hazards at work; an organisation's responsibilities for protecting workers and others; risk assessment principles; risk controls for different situations; and the importance of reporting incidents and near misses. John Phillips, director of qualifications and standards at the British Safety Council, explains that this course also provides a session on how to prevent pollution and minimise waste. "This new e-learning course provides people at work with a vital understanding of the basics of health and safety and environmental management, and helps support a positive safety culture within an organisation," comments Phillips. On completion of the course, delegates who go on to complete an online multi-choice assessment and online hazard spotting exercises will be awarded a certificate from IOSH.
