Atlas Copco has re-designed the retrofit energy recovery units for its GA series air compressors, claiming improved performance from a smaller footprint.

The firm asserts that as much as 94% of the electrical energy consumed by industrial compressors is converted into heat and lost through radiation during compression.
The firm's revised ER (energy recovery) units have been designed to convert around 94% of the wasted thermal energy into hot water at up to 90°C for process and facility applications.
According to Atlas Copco, the more compact design reflects space limitations in typical compressor rooms. There is, however, also a wider selection of variants, including twin-cooler versions.
The firm also suggests that, depending on system conditions, return on investment is often achievable within 12 months.
