Electric motors manufacturer WEG has unveiled an energy reduction initiative, designed to help manufacturers optimise efficiencies of existing plant and process equipment.

Daniel Griffiths, WEG's product specialist for automation, explains that it starts with a free assessment, which reviews equipment and outlines steps that plant engineers can take to reduce energy consumption and increase equipment efficiency and reliability.
In partnership with Sulzer, he says WEG intends to educate UK plant operators in selecting suitable equipment with energy-saving potential, and giving objective, professional advice on improving productivity while reducing energy consumption and costs.
Essentially, the firms' engineers will assess existing plant equipment and can install data loggers on-site to monitor and demonstrate energy usage. Then, where relevant, a variable speed drive (VSD) can be fitted, energy savings proven and savings related to project payback.
"Today, there is greater pressure than ever on organisations to minimise their carbon footprint and reduce their costs," states Griffiths.
"Our energy efficient technologies, like the W22 electric motors and our CFW inverter drives, can play a real role in helping them to do both," he continues.
"Our products are always designed to increase energy efficiency, reduce noise and temperature levels, reduce size and increase reliability."
