An unnamed animal feed manufacturer in Merseyside has seen plant electricity usage fall from £94,000 per year to £77,000, so lowering the cost per tonne of its end product by 18%.

The firm used Control Techniques drives partner Rewinds & J Windsor to conduct an energy audit, which revealed 12 motors and motor/fan units as offering the greatest payback.
Once go-ahead was given, 12 drive panels containing Commander SK inverters, from 5.5kW to 37kW, were built at RJW's panel building department and installed by the company's site installation team
A spokesperson for the animal feed company says that the investment required was £14,000 and confirms the first year returns as £17,000.
Additional benefits reported by the site's engineers include better plant reliability, which in turn has resulted in maintenance savings and reduced downtime.
