
On Twitter, the South Northamptonshire MP said she was “delighted and honoured” to be given the role by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Leadsom takes on the role from Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark, who held the position from July 2016 to July 2019.
Clark said: “It has been an honour to serve the country as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy for the last 3 years.”

Johnson, who has now taken over from former Prime Minister Theresa May, began naming his top team on Wednesday.
Among the other appointments are:
- Stephen Barclay – Brexit Secretary
- Ben Wallace – Defence Secretary
- Liz Truss – International Trade Secretary
- Theresa Villiers – Environment Secretary
- Gavin Williamson – Education Secretary
- Grant Shapps – Transport Secretary
Barclay said: “I’m deeply honoured that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has asked me to continue in my role as Brexit Secretary. It is time to energise the country to get Brexit delivered by October 31.”
