Magnetically-coupled centrifugal pumps have helped an unnamed "leading electronics manufacturer" to reduce downtime and repair costs, while also contributing toward a safer working environment.
That's the claim by pumping system specialists Michael Smith Engineers, which supplied the pumps to the semiconductor plant in Newport, South Wales.
The firm makes the point that waste acids and alkalis are among the unavoidable by-products of the manufacturing process and these require treatment prior to discharge.
Previously, mechanically sealed centrifugal pumps, used to transfer effluent into the plant's treatment system, were leaking – resulting in downtime, and regular and expensive repair and clean-up bills.
M Pumps' magnetically-coupled centrifugal model C MAG-P100, with PVDF pump head, were selected by filtration and water purification specialist General Waters UK.
According to Gareth Scully, water treatment engineer at General Waters UK, with no seals to fail, plus good corrosion resistance and effective containment, leak-free pumping has now been achieved – while extended pump operation between maintenance also means reduced downtime.
"We ... have found them to be very effective and reliable... The pumps were competitively priced and we would certainly recommend them," states Scully.
