New certificate in manual handling risk assessment

Manual handling is one of the main causes of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, and it's a global problem. The World Health Organization estimates 1.71 billion people experience musculoskeletal conditions worldwide.

NEBOSH has partnered with the Health and Safety Executive to develop a new qualification: the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Manual Handling Risk Assessment.

This qualification isn't about how to lift, it helps people take a step back and effectively risk assess manual handling activities. By doing so they may be able to eliminate or reduce an activity and the risks involved.

  • Understand why reducing the risks associated with manual handling activities is important
  • Be able to explain what manual handling risks are and how they may result in injury
  • Learn how to use HSE tools to interpret, categorise, and communicate the level of risk identified for known risk factors associated with manual handling activities
  • Practice appropriate manual handling risk assessment technique.
