Recipharm reports healthy compressor energy savings

Contract pharmaceuticals specialist Recipharm is reporting well over nearly £9,500 annual energy savings at its Ashton-under-Lyne plant as a result of reviewing its compressor plant.
Recipharm project engineer Les Williams explains that a survey by Thorite engineers demonstrated that the site's existing two compressors – which power the total processing requirement – were found far from energy efficient. "Thorite's data logging exercise enabled inefficiency problems to be precisely identified," he says, "and their expertise has produced a fast and economic solution." Thorite recommended a single advanced HPC CSD125SFC variable speed compressor, which is now commissioned and operational. Chief benefits include energy savings of well over 100,000 kWh, as well as carbon reduction of nearly 64 tonnes annually. "The new system will pay for itself, from cost savings alone, in considerably less than three years, but the environmental advantages are just as important, and are already happening," says Williams.
