Electric motors and controls specialist WEG is supplying AMRC (the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) with equipment and services for training apprentices and mechanic engineers.

The AMRC Training Centre, located between Sheffield and Rotherham, aims to provide practical and academic education for people from apprenticeship to doctorate and MBA levels.
In the first phase, WEG is supplying 14 IE3 three-phase electric motors and inverters, as well as laptops for programming. The second phase will extend that to the installation of motor gearboxes and fan units.
WEG has also set up a reward scheme in which the Maintenance Apprentice of the Year will be sent to one of WEG's sites to gain an understanding of how electric motors are manufactured and how the technology works.
"Through working together with companies like WEG and with the experience of our trainers, we ensure that the AMRC achieves its goals," comments David Smith, maintenance trainer at the AMRC Training Centre.
