WEG water delivers 40% higher inverter drive power

Electric motors and drives specialist WEG says its new CFW11W water-cooled drive offers up to 40% higher power in a more compact footprint than conventional air-cooled inverters.

Johannes Schwenger, head of drive systems product management at WEG, says that solves production plants' problems around space limitations while also eliminating the requirement for associated fan cooling plant.

"Our water-cooled CFW11W inverters are used wherever space is tight and suitable process water is already available," explains Schwenger.

"Compared to conventional models of the same size, these inverters deliver significantly higher power," he continues.

"For example, a water-cooled inverter with a 2.8MW power rating has smaller dimensions to an air-cooled model with a 2MW power rating."

With power ratings from 450kW to 2,800kW, and at least IP54 protection rating, the new inverter is claimed to be robust, and capable of operating without power loss at temperatures of up to 45°C.

Its modular architecture allows up to five power modules to be incorporated in a switchgear unit and controlled using a single operator panel.
