Maracom Commercial Heating Engineers reports that the new direct-fired storage water heater system, installed for West Ham Park Sports Pavilion's new showers, is living up to expectations.
The City of London selected Andrews' NEOflo SC25/400 high efficiency water heater, fitted with a conventional flue system which discharges vertically through the flat roof, and a Maracom spokesperson says that it was easy to commission and set up.
"The client particularly liked the NEOflo unit's integral anti-Legionella programme, which is designed to raise the water temperature automatically over a set number of hours," he says.
And he adds: "Another advantage of this new water heater is it's ability to operate on reduced mains water pressure which, in effect, future-proofs the installation against Thames Water's planned reduction in water pressure across London".
The new showering system has also been greeted with universal approval and, according to a member of the City of London Surveyors Department, feedback from the football teams suggests that these are the best showers they have ever had.
Previously, heat for the showers came from a cast iron boiler serving two 300-litre calorifiers and the system had no means of control, other than the storage temperature being controlled by the boiler thermostat.
The 400 litre NEOflo unit installed has a nominal output of 25kW and a recovery rate of 430 litres per hour through a temperature rise of 50oC. It uses a single upward firing pre-mix burner, and features high fuel efficiencies and low NOx of around 25ppm.
