Variable-speed air compressors from FPS Compressors are claimed to bring a new level of energy efficiency, because of their direct drive, permanent magnet motors and sophisticated controls.

Conventional variable speed compressors harness a combination of an induction motor and inverter – which loses efficiency with low and very high demand, due to reduced motor efficiency and inverter losses respectively.
However, the Galileo range, manufactured by Power System Group, is based on its PS-DV Series variable-speed compressor plus the new synchronous motor, which eliminates extreme speed limitations.
Permanent magnet motor benefits include very high flux density, high and constant torque, and higher power factor and efficiency across a very wide range of operating speeds. Those, according to FPS, mean efficiency savings of 9—12%.
The compressors can also be connected to SCADA software or business systems via a LAN, serial interface or the web for remote monitoring and diagnostics.
There are over 25 models, offering performance from 9—180kW with operating pressures between 7.5 and 13 bar, and capacity of 1,570—30,000 L/min.
