Extended life for the most extreme industrial power transmission applications is the claim from Baldor Electric for its latest Dodge mounted ball bearing.
The company cites aggregates, cement, paper, wood and metal processing as prime beneficiaries for the Dodge Extreme Duty unit, which has a patented new sealing system (called QuadGuard) and ball retainer.
QuadGuard itself comprises a triple lip seal and a rubberised flinger – the former offering three points of contact, keeping the lubricant in and contaminants out, while the rubberised flinger provides an additional barrier to contaminants.
As for the retaining cage, it's a two-piece ball, dubbed Maxlife, which creates a grease compartment around each of the rolling elements, and ensures constant contact between ball and grease.
Those are the keys to its protection and they also lead to reduced maintenance and improved performance.
The bearings are available in a variety of housing styles and use a 65 degree spacing for setscrews, offering what Baldor claims is an optimum balance between locking force and inner ring stress.
The range is available in a wide range of imperial sizes plus metric sizes from 20 to 85 mm.
