Four ultra-slim controllers, from Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies, offer considerably more performance and working memory than their predecessors – as well as two Profinet control communications interfaces.
Dubbed Simatic S7-300, there are two standard controllers (CPU 315-2 PN/DP and CPU 317-2 PN/DP) and two failsafe units (CPU 315F-2 PN/DP and CPU 317F-2 PN/DP).
Siemens says they execute user programs more than twice as fast – meaning bit commands now require only 25 nsec and the time for word, fixed-point and floating-point arithmetic commands is also much shorter than before.
With an integrated web server, system diagnostics have also been improved, while the controllers' new displays cover Profinet I/O topology, module status and direct links to their web servers.
