PCS7 process management system sees extensions

Improvements to Siemens Simatic PCS7 v8 process management system include better data exchange for planning and additional tools, such as its advanced process library and process historian.
On the process data and set-up side, for example, engineering workflow has been simplified, communication improved, and redundancy and fault-tolerant functions added. Additionally, v8 comes with new controllers and extended software tool functionality. As for the advanced process library (APL), it now features software blocks for motor management, starters and compact drives, while the AdvES advanced engineering system has a new type concept compliant with ISA 88 (control module types) and a user interface with a progress indicator. The industry library has also been enlarged with software blocks for HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) applications. Further, packages for Simatic S7-300, as well as on-site operator panels, can now be integrated into the industry library, with the APL look and feel. Additionally, electrical switchgear can be integrated in line with IEC 61850.
