For steam producers wanting to remove suspended and emulsified containments from wastewater without treatment chemicals, GEM has introduced its ceramic microfiltration system.

The company says that using CMF results in a "massive" reduction in water and effluent costs – to the extent that it promises return on investment within two years.
How? It reduces water usage and can also reduce energy consumption by recovering heat in the wastewater. Additionally, water quality is often better than that of the raw water stock from which the effluent was produced, the company claims.
GEM explains that the ceramic filters are coated with fine membranes, which provide filtration to a variety of sub-micron pore sizes. The cleaned filtrate is diverted to a storage system for recycling, while rejected contaminants are collected in a small concentrate waste stream.
