Programmable cylinder meets hygiene standards

The world's first clean-line pneumatic cylinder with programmable multi-position stroke sensing, for food applications, has been introduced by Parker Hannifin.
Designated P1D Clean, the new cylinder incorporates a patented internal conductive magnetic foil positioning sensor (a thin multi-layer strip running the length of the cylinder) and a permanent magnet mounted around the circumference of the piston, which eliminates problems of external dirt traps. As a result, unlike traditional cylinders – where sensors are located in grooves formed during extrusion – the new cylinder is smooth and sealed to IP67 (and, where applicable, IP69K), conforming to both EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) and EN 1672-2:2005 for intensive cleaning. Just as important, remote programming means that engineers and machine builders can improve performance and productivity. Parker says it will supply the P1D with the facility to establish up to four position signals, which can be set anywhere along the stroke length and changed as required. It will also supply cylinders preconfigured. Bore sizes are from 32 to 125mm with a stroke length of up to 500mm.
