A thermal imaging camera, claimed to be around half the price of comparable units, may bring dual imaging technology to engineers everywhere.
That's the goal of Irisys with its IR16DS handheld, lightweight camera. Engineers can capture and display thermal images, visual images, a fusion of the two and picture-in-picture for analysing hot and cold spots.
Features include four moveable cursors, which allow easy comparison of components and items in the scene – for example on three-phase electrical supplies.
Also, a time sequencing function allows unattended monitoring of equipment, where necessary – either at regular intervals, or on exceeding set thresholds. And battery life is also good, at five hours.
One micro SD card holds more than 1,000 images and engineers can add voice notes and play them back through the camera's speaker or through a PC.
